No two hauntings are the same because no two circumstances are the same.

I have resolved cases where the occupants simply felt watched, suffered persistent nightmares and occasionally felt something breathing on their neck.

I have also dealt with the opposite end of the spectrum, where women were violently assaulted, people lost periods of time and children were no longer safe even at the family dinner table.

There is no ‘one size fits all’.

The Circumstances

The cause of the disturbance usually determines the speed at which events develop, the type of spirit involved and how the activity presents itself.

The following scenarios will bring different symptoms:

• Your spouse picked up something at the prison they work at

• Insulted a supernatural when you visited some ruins and didn’t announce yourself

• Gifted ancestry that is beginning to surface in you or your children

• Live in the forest/next to hospital/in old doctors office

• Moved House

• Traumatic event has occurred to a member of the household.

If vengeance is the motive (aggrieved supernatural) there is going to be a very rapid onset and severe signs as they want to scare you and they want you to know they are there. These tend to be the short and sharp hauntings where you go from being a normal household to there being something in the mirror staring back at you whilst you clean your teeth.

Those with an accelerated onset are absolutely like the movies - alongside those that are near specific locations know as ‘places of power’ - as these locations act as attractors to spirits. Just like the watering hole on the plains.

Like Carbon Monoxide

The ones that actually do the most damage long term, and are incredibly frequent in the United States are the silent ones.

The homes where it always feels a little darker than it should, a particular room might feel off, familial relations are strained and there are varying degrees of anxiety and depression with every member of the household. No one in the home can quite put their finger on it, but no one is happy, successful or really wants to go home after work or school.

Your instincts are screaming, you just aren’t aware why.

This type of interference often leads to varying types of self harm, mood disorders, complete relationship breakdown, job loss and personality change. School grades suffer, sleep is awful, no one wants to talk to each other, there may be a chronic illness diagnosis and you are constantly made to not feel good enough by your own home.

The one place that is supposed to be your safe haven.

The Warrens

One phrase I hear time and time again when resolving these situations is:

“I know I’m just being silly but…”

No. The person who recognises there is a problem and responds by either getting help from an external source or cleansing their house themselves is that households hero. They aren’t being ‘silly’ or ‘dramatic’ or ‘seeing things’, they are protecting everyone from what is happening now, and what it might accelerate into in the future.

The Warrens were only called to those cases where people thought they were ‘being silly’ for far too long. The sooner you nip it in the bud, the easier it is to resolve and the less impact it will have on your family.

So is it like in the movies? Worse actually, but don’t let it get that far.

One of the things that stops people developing their spiritual gifts is remembering that feeling when they saw those figures at the end of their bed as a child. Sliding the blanket over their head, hoping, praying that they would just leave.

These figures could have been any number of things with any number of intents - but one thing is for sure. You saw them.

As an adult the games changes; if you have an inkling that you are dealing with something unwanted in your home, you take control of the situation and evict them. They aren’t paying rent so why should you share.

Many people go straight back into the helplessness they had as a child and gaslight themselves into not believing it and work, stress or hormones gets the blame. When the truth is the sooner you take action, the easier it is to remove.

Not all hauntings are from spirits will ill intent. Some might be lonely, some can see that you can help them and some are just lost children, but the symptoms that can unwittingly evoke can still be terrifying….(I mean no one likes a spirit child watching them sleep).

The Education Needed

An acceptance that some of the dead go astray and remain one shade away from the physical, and the knowledge that you can make your home inhospitable to them. Everyone had this knowledge previously, including Christians, until the Church needed extra funds and to add a little to their authority over their congregation so an announcement was made that God had spoken and now it was only Priests who could command the evil spirits to leave.

This is a lie.

And as I mentioned previously, the majority of these ‘evil’ spirits are just people who might have missed the doorway when they died and are looking for help. So some hopped up priest shouting at your 4’ 2’ Grandma to ‘leave this place’ is ridiculous and honestly, there is no power in this.

There is so much more power in you protecting your own home - and it is easily done with a few ingredients, and a belief in something else.

You do not need to be clairvoyant. You do not need to have a ton of knowledge. You do not need to be part of any group or religion/tradition.

Simple is Better

All it usually takes is a weekly ‘cleanse’ in your home and trusting when you feel something is off.

There are whole book written on incredibly intricate protection methods - but if you are living a normal life and your home isn’t somewhere incredibly intense like the middle of a battlefield or next to an abattoir, it is unnecessary.

A very necessary note here: unless you are indigenous to North America, you should not be using sage. It is not yours.

You have your own medicine. Use it.

When you use the methods of your dead relatives it connects you to them and they will help protect your home. This is a game changer.

If you protect your home and your neighbour does the same, and a couple of women two streets away, it creates a kind of net that protects everything within in and the energy of the whole place changes into something of ease.

The great side effect of regularly cleansing is that everyone in the home is happier, there is less stress, problems are walked through easily and anyone with health problems will find they feel a little better. It just makes everything feel ‘clear’.

My first decade of development occurred in the UK during a time when your only options were Mediumship, Angels and Reiki or some type of Osho inspired commune.

Even then, the landscape felt remarkably limited.

Beyond Reiki

Reiki is for those with a Japanese lineage - it no longer bears much resemblance to it’s original form. Dr Usui created it in the early 20th century and the west stole it, and stripped it to ensure it is profitable. After all you can’t sell something complicated.

There is no doubt in my mind that there is serious power in Reiki - but not the whitewashed version still doing the rounds.

Healing is a far broader field than most contemporary spiritual circles acknowledge. Your ancestral traditions almost certainly predate Dr Usui by centuries. Working with the spirits who are actually doing the healing (leaves, roots, resins, rocks, animals, the dead) is what you should be aiming for.

Healing is intimate. It is relational. It develops through long-term work with the spirits, plants, animals, land and ancestors that form your own tradition.

Not because of the gratitude the ‘healee’ has, but because you are honouring your spirits and your ancestors every time you work with them. They have been ignored for a long long time - you are choosing to build a life with them. You are choosing the right path. They will fill your life with love and purpose if you stay the course.

It’s not just about your skills, but how you choose to apply it. A medium may choose to spend a lifetime giving evidential messages in a church. How He Arrives

Anubis tends to show up in your life once you have accepted that you can indeed see/feel/hear the dead. Your acceptance of such a gift/curse/quirk is the key to giving your permission for him to step forward.

This doesn’t mean that you are not scared of the dead - this is perfectly normal. It doesn’t mean that when your heart stops and the hairs on the back of your neck stand to attention that you are rejecting your mediumship. These are the baser instincts that evolution has pre-programmed in to keep you alive.

It’s perfectly normal.

Anubis may show up unannounced during a meditation, dream or even just in the middle of your lounge. He isn’t necessarily the most subtle - but then death isn’t supposed to be.

If you have the opportunity to be under Anubis’ tutelage you are very lucky indeed. He will ensure you gain skills, confidence and understand your role in your own protection.

He is one in a million.

Pomba Gira hails from Brazil. She is the matriarch of a cult called Quimbanda that originated due to the African diaspora and contains elements of African, indigenous and European magic. They kept what worked, and Pomba Gira is a spirit who evolves with what her people need.

The best way for me to describer her is she is everything, which is incredibly unhelpful for you.

Pomba Gira being legion means that there are many Pomba Giras, all of which have a role to play within the world. Each Pomba Gira has a speciality that we need to either survive in the world or change our internal lives so we can be who we are supposed to be.

One thing to be very clear about is that Pomba Gira is an ancestral spirit - so she is a dead human with something extra - she is not a goddess. AT ALL. This means that Pomba Gira is much closer to our vibration and she is exceptional at appearing in front of you or in corners when she is around.

Being ancestral also means she is a lot quicker at getting results for you, and understands the importance of some of your requests.

Working with Her

Ideally you would work with Pomba Gira within Quimbanda as she prefers to have her counterpart Exu honoured and worked with at the same time.

Pomba Gira and Exu are not pretty spirits - they are incredibly sharp, effective and beyond powerful so having a system like Quimbanda ensures you have the correct precautions and being within a group with a responsible leader makes a huge difference.

If you want to know more, please research Quimbanda/Kimbanda to understand the breadth of her reach. Even then this is not accurate as records and traditions relating specifically to her within the cult have been lost as men deemed them unimportant to keep.

Only most of us do not live in tribes or clans anymore. The beliefs that included the spirits were stamped out by colonialism so we don’t have an elder to go to anymore that has had the opportunity to live in a life surrounded by spirits.

So the first thing we do is casually Google or look on social media for someone who we have an affinity with. Only there is more to it than our intuition. We are constantly being manipulated by algorithms, language patterns, our vulnerabilities, marketing - we mistake this for messages from our spirits.

Next step is that group course that the same person also offers - you make a few friends, learn some basic techniques but it feels like its lacking something. Like they have pulled together a bunch of ideas from a book and are now making you live it chapter by chapter.

So you pivot to someone else whose practice is different, and then another and another.

Do you know where you are going?

You should be able to see where your practice is going - like a stint at University - you may decide to major in something far more specialised but you remain on the same course and you can see the end point. And if you choose, you go on further to complete a Masters or PHD.

Tacking together courses that aren’t specific to your lineage keep you are year one in school. To be honest, they are the preparatory courses before you step into the place you truly develop and everything feels like it fits.

You feel the depth, you feel the weight and it feels like the molecules of your soul come to life.

Stop Wandering

People spend years walking down the same generic path to awaken one morning and realise - it doesn’t really mean anything. It’s like wearing a set of clothes rather than feeding your soul.

There are certain paths and figures that are fashionable at the moment. Acceptable.

There are hundreds that have yet to make it on TikTok, what happens if yours is one of these. What if you are waiting for your spirits to lead you to the right facilitator but the algorithm will be working against you.

We cannot expect it to be the way it was when we lived on the territory our lineage is from. If you are white and American, that ship (literally) has long sailed.

Get the map. Find what spirits are stood by your side. Find out your dominant lineage. Find out exactly what you should be learning, how your spirits want to work with you (methods of communication, dynamic), and the techniques of that lineage.

Dive right in, at the right place, with the right people, using the right methods. Your connection will be instantly deeper and that weight of responsibility will suddenly make sense.

1. They Are Yours

The time has come for you to walk with them. They are a spirit connected to your personal lineage who has arrived to aid you in walking this section of your path.

Some of your personal spirits will stay with you for decades, others for 6 months - do not expect them to stay forever, or you would stagnate.

Why now? You could be at a particular junction in your life when you need their help. It could be that you have just started developing your gifts so now you are able to see them or it could be that now was the destined day - you have needed a push to take your path seriously, and nothing does that better than a God showing up whilst you are eating your Lasagne.

2. You Are Part of Their People

Spirits tend to have a group of people that fall within their remit. So it doesn’t matter whether your ancestors worked with them or not - you have just become a new mother so you know fall under the purview of Tawaret (Egyptian goddess of mothers and newborns) so if you see a random Hippo near your babies crib, that is her protecting them.

If you have had surgery and are concerned about death, you may find Santa Muerte appears in your hospital room, or if you are a woman reclaiming her sexuality, that Pomba Gira (Quimbanda) is cackling in your kitchen.

These spirits are the right vibration for you to step into and move forward.

Once you have moved through this phase of your live they will often disappear as you no longer need them, however, there is nothing wrong with you giving them some offerings and popping in for chat if you are a little nostalgic.

3. You Are In Their Territory

You live in the city, and go stay at a friends house in the woods for the weekend. It’s an hour drive, so not exactly far but….you are in the middle of a forest, which is a whole different set of spirits.

The forest belongs to them.

So don’t panic about having to work with that strange looking thing from the cave, it just showed itself because you shouldn’t be going in that cave. I mean, imagine if someone just strolled into your house to poke around a bit…

If you have a good relationship with your personal spirits and you go on holiday somewhere completely different. You will sometimes find that their counterpart in that country greets you, or one of that pantheon will show you that they are aware of your presence (so basically behave yourself).

What to Do?

If they are showing themselves in your own home it is far more important that you do the research to find out who they are. You path is coming for you, even if you aren’t looking for it.

And these spirits will be the best friends you ever have so learn how to meditate safely with them so you can have the conversations you need to, so they can support you in your endeavours.

If they just look like a normal ‘dead person’ (no disrespect)they are often asking for help, and a sign that if you aren’t already, that you need to look into developing your Mediumship and acquiring the skills to psychopomp safely.

The realm of death is not simple nor safe.

When people speak of the saints, it reminds me of that cabinet full of ornaments at your Grandma’s house that no one is allowed to touch. Or the wedding china that sits there looking all pretty in that custom made cupboard begging to be used, but is always kept for that special occasion that never comes.

Work. With. The. Saints.

With my Clients I find a lot of beliefs around the Saints is ‘but why would they help me?’ ‘I am not good enough for them to even look upon.’ Only the Priests are good enough.

And the concern that if they do not here a booming voice clear as tell announcing the arrival of Saint so-and -so, that their beliefs of worthlessness were right.

Saints don’t want to be worshipped, they want to be worked.

The Saints are Vast

The Saints are just humans.

They are people that died, who due to the energy sent to them in death by us, have a little more juju to walk between worlds and help out.

These are people who have been tortured, fought the enemy, aided the poor and stood for what they believed in. They do not want to be a simple ornament on your mantle, they are people of action.

Treat them as an Ancestor, treat them as a friend whom you would like to get to know.

There are some Saints/Ancestors who died after gaining some spiritual knowledge in life. Christian mystics, pagans who were also priests and the prophetesses, are all walking with people on a path imparting their wisdom, helping them learn how to fight and showing them what they have to offer.

Because the Saints ARE our Ancestors it gives them access to the various magickal and religious traditions across the globe, so understand that there are many ‘pagan’ systems that have accepted various Saints into the fold simply because they kept showing up.

The saints are not a stand alone group that belong to the church, they run through everything and are not only to be found in Christianity at all.

That is simply who decided to use their story for their institutional and political needs.

Folk Saints

Folk Saints are some of my favourite spirits, because it is the community themselves who recognised that these people were helping them after death. Whether they came to them in a dream with good news during sickness, showed up on a hospital ward or delivered money that they desperately needed.

Thanks is given, candles are bought, love is freely given and a connection created.

This occurring over and over turns this person into an elevated Ancestor (or a saint).

One of the things I love about folk saints versus canonised saints is that there has been no attempt to sanctify or sanitise the image of a folk saint. If anything it is the opposite - they reflect their community, they ARE one of them which is why they are so successful, and spread like wildfire.

They are far more likely to be approached as it’s just like going to see your Uncle John who liked his beer a little too much.

It’s just such a shame that we don’t see all saints this way.

So whether it is Jesus Malverde, Rosa De Lima or Ursula approach them as a human, not a religious figure.

Their Plea

Canonised saints have been sat on that mantle of ours for a long time now, only being prayed to within certain confines, never being given the tools that will help them to make a difference. Help us to make a difference.

Please take them off of the mantle.

If you keep thinking of a saint in particular, you have a dream with one or you hear the same name three times in a day, understand that is them reaching out. They will come to you as much as you go to them.

Take them off the mantle and onto your desk so you can get to work building your relationship, changing your life and making a difference in this world.

Ah Puch (Cizin) makes me wish I could draw.

He is a tall rotting corpse that is somehow still incredibly majestic at the same time.

If Ah Puch were a metal it would be steel, colour - black. He is an ally who will cause you to take a step back when he first appears as he does not retract his energy for anyone, so you can expect to feel a little uncomfortable whilst he takes the weight of your character, and what you can achieve together.

Ah Puch’s Role

He governs over the deepest level of the underworld - as legends have it - the place people go who die ordinary deaths (God forbid) or do not pass the challenges laid out by the Gods.

Ah Puch is the judge, jury and executioner down there exacting punishments, and when he fancies it, he visits topside to stalk those who wander in the dark with no protection, sometimes harvesting the already sick souls.

However, in my experience the underworld changed, and it’s forces evolved along with it.

We used to have knowledge of how the afterlife works, we were raised with the stories of what was to come after death so we knew what to do when we met the Council of Gods. But now that information was obliterated by the Spanish and replaced with the notion of ‘heaven’.

And it does not work that way.

So Ah Puch’s level of the underworld is too full - it cannot hold what it is having to hold. He needs our help as much as much as we need his.

As an Ally

He is not one on my lineage Spirits, but I am regularly in his territory and I train those who belong to him.

Ah Puch is one of the most loyal, distinguished and effective forces I know. He is a steel blade made flesh, with his hollow eyes and putrid skin.

He is a sight to behold.

His work with his children centres around psychopomping (crossing the dead over) in the dark places of the Americas. Ah Puch is adept at going to the sites of natural disasters, high level violence and mass graves with those working with him, psychopomping and adjusting the energy accordingly.

He will ensure you are protected, challenged and supported in a way that makes you not just a better practitioner, but a better person.

As the kind of death Ah Puch is, he will help you in cutting from your life what is rotting, without any feelings of guilt or obligation, as those feelings are useless in the real world.

They are a cage, you must free yourself from.

Follow the path you have been gifted with.

I am choosing not to use the term ‘spiritual experience’ because, whilst it is accurate, it is very different to feel the holiness in a church compared to seeing a dead person in your bedroom.

There is no other feeling quite like the first time it happens, especially because it tends to be over quite quickly.

The first thought is always ‘what!?’.

Shock, awe then nnnnoooooooo, really!? why me? Maybe I made it up? Maybe it’s because of that movie the other night?

But everything in your soul is settled. The human side of you is excited, maybe a little trepidation if it was a creature rather than the dead, but your soul tells you this is normal. You just have to listen to it.

So what are you supposed to do now?

Believe it

Do not gaslight yourself - that is your deadbeat ex-boyfriends job, let’s leave him to it. He is the expert after all.

When you have an experience it is truly like the world stands still. You stop breathing, your heart stops pumping and you will remember it for the rest of your life, so please believe it.

It doesn’t matter if what you are seeing is a character from a film. Spirits are simply energy so if you saw something from Labyrinth, True Blood or one of the bajillion Thor movies they are simply giving you a clue as to what they are.

Which is great news because it means they are for the long term.

Write it Down

As much detail as possible including how you felt, the date, the time, where, what was said, their expression, clothing, colours, could you see feet, etc.

The same goes for a dream; get as much detail as possible.

It’s also really important for you to write down your thoughts at the time and afterwards, as they will often influence these if you are heading in the wrong direction (dismissing the experience).

Writing it down somewhere safe will ensure you can research properly, that your psychology doesn’t alter things to fit in with preexisting scripts and if you begin to doubt, you can read back through it and it almost places you back there. Feeling those things and seeing them again.

Be Careful Who You Tell

From my experience - men will deny it happened, women will become envious so will dismiss it. You do not need either of these responses.

You know how it is, sometimes you tell those closet to you about a goal you have; losing weight, new job, new girlfriend, moving to a different country, and they will poo-poo it because they don’t want you to change. Or they can’t do it so you shouldn’t either.

The same will happen here.

In all countries you also have the issue of how they were raised; if you admit to seeing a ghost to a friend from a religious household you may never see them again.

You must protect this sacred event. It was all for you.

Any Strange Family Members?

These gifts run down the Matriarchal line so it is likely you have a ‘weird’ grandmother or an Aunt who everyone jokes about being a little ‘cuckoo’.

If you come from a family that isn’t white, you are likely to find there are stories that run through your ancestry. It is absolutely worth asking one of your more open minded elders if there are any strange stories in the family.

Many will light up at being given the chance to tell you about what they used to see when they were back on their ancestral land, or that their Cousin saw things all the time and they used to take bets on if she would get it right.

You can decide if you want to tell them what has happened but please judge carefully. If you do not, the stories you hear may provide vital clues on where to go from here at least.

But the best case scenario, is a family member takes you under their wing to learn the ways of your family.

Research

So…you have your written account, you have no family to ask - it doesn’t matter.

You take that information and search the internet to see what you can find. If you use AI you are looking at your information through the lens of a sweaty white guy who has only read about spirits, so a Google search the old fashioned way paying attention to blogs especially.

The people who work with the spirits.

You will generally find a trail of information that leads you somewhere and you will get a ‘feeling’ when you have found the right spirit. Sometimes a few details might be off, but you will know.

If you simply have a random dead person - there will not be a lot to research. However if he has a top hat and skull face, or a fedora and a cigarette, there most definitely it.

Normal dead people TEND to appear as they were in real life - skull faces are kept for those who have elevated.

Development

Some people have one experience of spirit and never follow it up. It is not the spirit’s job to nag you into taking control of your gifts - they simply show you something within you.

So what are you going to do?

If you want to have conversations with your spirits and take control of your fate, I suggest developing with someone who has been on a path for a long time, and knows exactly what they are doing.

NB: Just because they are a ‘spiritual’ person does not make them a good person, so follow your instinct and never cross your own boundaries.

If you have a group close to you, before you join, it is worth asking how they protect the group sessions and what their expectations are of you. When you visit for the first time, understand that you would be an asset to them, you are vetting them as much as they are vetting you.

Then you have the ‘Dans’

These guys tend to go one of two ways - heavily into the ‘occult’ which is the exact same thing as spirituality, just a more mysterious term for it. It is still just working with spirits.

It’s no more sexy.

These guys are like the incels older brothers around for centuries before the term existed. They tend to be quite isolated, bad social skills and they feel the world owes them something. The most common reason for them turning to the occult is for money and women.

Not to be a hero like in the films they worship, but to get laid.

It’s a tale as old as time.

Dan Version 2.0 the guy who runs ceremonies/circles/tantra workshops. This Dan is much better socially, got a haircut and has ventured outside of his bedroom to get himself a nice little piece of knowledge that allows him to coerce men/women/non-binary/unicorns into sexual activity, dependency and monetary gain.

‘Only I can fix that trauma from your childhood, re-experiencing it in a safe environment with an expert like me will reset your nervous system.’

These People are the Pretenders

There are plenty of men and women who practice various traditions and have walked a path that results in a character full of respect, resilience and wisdom. There is no need for performance or to make their whole identity a plant.

They will be the ones not on TikTok, the ones who don’t own any t-shirts with the symbol of their spirits on them as the spirits don’t like this. It’s a violation of trust.

Those who follow a path with their spirits - who actually communicate with them face to face - are very, very normal. You couldn’t pick them out of a crowd. Maybe a little more something but that’s it.

Their spirits have ensured they have had exposure to the worst life has to offer so they either cease walking their path or they turn into someone Jesus and Hecate would be proud to stand with.

A spiritual path results in courage, freedom and kindness not a house full of swag.

What makes the difference.

Say you have been working on a business, using AI to come up with a marketing strategy and locked in like never before. You can see this working and changing your life as you know it - you can finally put into the world what you want to.

You awaken after a New Moon and there is a little niggle that something isn’t right, your belief in you achieving your goals is wavering.

You do not chastise yourself for trusting a machine. You do not fall into a pit of despair for three days. You do not quit your entire business because it is never going to work. You definitely do not think this is a sign that you aren’t supposed to do it.

You rant to a friend and scream about how bad AI is. You feel the disappointment and the loss of certainty at having a concrete plan for a couple of hours. You decide if you still want to do the ting you want to do.

Then you pick yourself up, get a coffee and make a better strategy yourself, all the whilst running on a low level rage at AI to fuel your determination.

This is a life changing tower moment.

If this hadn’t happened you would have continued for months with no success and given up on something that you could have done.

The same with relationships, friends, jobs and anything else you invest energy in. Anything that steers your life and affects your choices. Its better the band-aid is ripped off sooner rather than waste years with the wrong person.

Please listen to the tower moments, big and small. Accept that seeing the truth isn’t a failure on your part. It doesn’t make you stupid, it doesn’t make you naive. Everyone has tower moments - even The Rock who is terrifyingly successful and rarely puts a foot wrong in business.

Those who still continue to exist in the rubble of the tower after it has fallen will walk deeper and deeper into denial and the darkness. Nothing grows in the rubble.

My mediumship has been apparent since childhood, but I was formally trained - if you can call it that - at various circles after a wake up call.

The students all attend with the hope to be able to pass messages on to others in the circle with the end goal to be a working medium on the Spiritual Circuit in the UK.

When you first step into these circles as a newbie, stepping onto platform (stage) seems terrifying and so far off it’s ridiculous. Honestly, there are some that don’t want to go on platform, simply happy with honing their skills, but it is seen as selfish to not share your gift, and it gives your teacher a chance to show off.

After a couple of years, after my confidence grew and I stopped being scared of my own shadow, I wondered what the point of all this was.

It was the same people in the same chairs on Sunday waiting for messages from the same dead people. This was the one place no one was asking for evidence, and I understand a need for comfort, but this should be for a finite amount of time.

The mediums on the circuit were always the same and it was this little cliquey, incestuous, pat on the back circuit. They felt like heroes. Neighbourhood celebrities.

It Should Only be the Beginning

My love, if you can speak to the dead, that means you WORK with the dead.

Your spirituality shouldn’t be about performance, it should be about change. Ideally for you and your community, whatever that looks like.

If you are able to talk to the Ancestors this hugely opens up your path, as where do you think your knowledge and wisdom is supposed to come from? Books? Those people of different lineages? TedTalks?

The knowledge and gifts you hold inside yourself can be cracked open by working with your Ancestors and spirits - to stop at giving messages of comfort is ludicrous. You can take down governments with the help of the dead, but you are sat here giving Gladis a message from her husband that died 15 years ago.

You are worth more and this is not what your gifts are meant for. Gifts can be used as a weapon, so point them in the right direction.

Alongside this, if you are a medium you should be trained to psychopomp - cross the dead over safely and sometimes your ancestors need something from you in the Underworld. A position of purpose and responsibility has be bestowed on more than one occasion.

Please bear in mind that there is danger at play with this so ensure you are trained to ensure you aren’t being put at risk.

If you wish to stay ‘death-centric’ you also have doula work, healing, removing death energy from locations, focusing on specific type of death and aiding their plight, interceding on their behalf in energetic work in specific territories and much much more.

Being a medium is the key to an entire path, not just a death-centric one.

So hone your technique, give a few messages and then go out into the big wide world be a threat.

No one ever understands just how big their role in the universe can be until they are actually doing it.

There are different types of dreams that many of us have. One of these is the dream that is given by a spirit - it comes with instructions on what to do moving forward, answers to a question you have been pondering, or warnings and/or prophecies.

And all you wanted was a break from real life for a while….

So. Lets say in your dream an unknown man walks around a corner and hands you an envelope.

Are you scared?
Are you attracted to him?
Is he familiar?
Is there urgency?
Do you feel like you belong to something?

Another example - You are in a bathroom and people around you are talking about pregnancy.

Do you want this? Overwhelmed? Trying to leave? Matter of fact? Jealous? Feels like a trap?

In some dreams you will be able to not only remember your feelings, but also your thoughts. All of this is relevant. The more detail you can remember the better.

Especially important if you have been working with your spirits via dreams or are using dream rituals to bring clarity.

Santa Muerte is a Mexican folk saint who is spreading across the globe at a rate that could never have been predicted. She is worshipped and worked with by those of differing religions and those with no spiritual leanings whatsoever.

She is one of few who appears to those in need of her help when they have not called upon her, and, in fact, have no knowledge about who she is at all.

Oddly disconcerting when she looks like a very cute Grimm Reaper (she is 4 ft nothing), but she does fill the room with a feeling of ‘safety’ so there are no feeling of imminent death.

Everybody’s Mother

The best way I can describe her personality is a Mother of errant children (us).

She hopes we choose the light as often as possible, she is always on our team, but she will let us make those mistakes that teach us how to be better people, how to have a better character.

You are a single mother who sleeps with men so you can afford your rent - she absolutely gets it. She’ll get a friend to offer you a job in school hours so you have the choice - continue with what you know or decide you deserve better.

Cartel Member - Father just died and is beside himself with grief. Santa Muerte sees the light in this guy that is buried beneath bad choices and she stokes it. She will comfort this man, love this man and always hold hope that he will make a different decision.

She will not hurt people on his behalf. She will not protect his weapons cache.

She is not an idiot.

If you are a school teacher in Ohio and you are desperately unhappy in your relationship, but what else is there? You feel like you are worth more than this town, more than this job and you want to give more to the world.

Santa Muerte is the one who will give you the courage to make this ‘death’ happen. Sometimes we need that raspy voice in the corner saying ‘if it now, when. Don’t die with this inside of you.’

A protector, cheerleader, benefactor, advisor, someone who raises their eyebrow when you do something questionable…everything a Mother is.

Her Status

Part of the reason Santa Muerte IS so popular is because she isn’t tarnished by religion. She keeps being rejected by the church and I am hoping this remains in place going forward.

Santa Muerte’s beginnings came during the genocide across the Americas by the Christian Spanish - she has witnessed what has been done in Gods name and the lies that are told.

There have been many smear campaigns by the Catholic Church - especially in Mexico - because she poses a threat to them. She is, very loudly, exactly what the Church should be but chooses not to be.

Effective, accepting and merciful.

By Santa Muerte not being welcomed into the arms of the church, she has been welcomed into the arms of all those the church has (and continues to) rebuked. Queer, non-binary, women, the differently-abled, those in poverty, the abused, immigrants in affluent communities…..it’s a match made in heaven.

Everyone’s relationship with their spirits is different; it all comes down to personalities and path.

My spirit’s have walked me out of a path of chronic people-pleasing, anxiety, low self-worth, suicidal ideation and fear, onto one of freedom, self assurance and resilience.

Anubis took me by the hand and taught me skills in my lineage that I didn’t know existed. He helped me fight the disbelief; the feeling of ‘yeah, but why me? I am not good enough for this…’. He protected me from those in the worlds who tried to interrupt my development in real time.

Sekhmet grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and showed me that the world doesn’t end if I walk out of a shop without buying something, or pressed the brake pedal unnecessarily on a turn.

This was the level of anxiety I lived with.

She taught me boundaries by throwing me into a viper pit when it was necessary, tending to my wounds when they bit too deep. She showed me no mercy, and continues to hold me to the highest standards - pushing me when I don’t think I can go any further.

She will forever be one of my most valued Mothers. A crucial role model and part of me.

Exu and Pomba Gira walked me though love, sexuality and what being part of a family actually means. The helped me release the grief that had consumed me for decades and they taught me to dance again.

They threw me into the fire so I could burn of the chains that surrounded me.

Every single one of my spirits has fought for me, and I can feel it. I would not be alive without them.

The Fight has Changed

My path was never a light one. It has been dark, old and, at times, terrifying.

The animals that used to eat me in my nightmares every night as a child, are now the parts of me that make me good at my job.

Some of the dark entities that I used to see, weren’t dark but old, powerful and look pretty weird.

But there are still the bad guys.

And now instead of my comrades fighting for me, they fight alongside me so we can change the order of things in the physical reality.

Whether it’s helping someone heal after a divorce, clearing a house where a child is seeing things or dealing with simple spiritual interference, I know there is someone with their ear out just in case…..

This is why they are my comrades.

This is why I try to honour them with every choice I make.

The Responsibility

A spiritual path will bring you power.

It will bring you knowledge of things you do not even know exist yet, and it will cultivate a relationship with them that means you can influence, and out right, dictate certain outcomes.

There are many who have been trusted in the past and have misused the knowledge and the Spirits for their own ends. Who treat them as nothing more than hired guns and their own personal servants.

Firstly, the spirits have to make sure you have amazing boundaries so you don’t just give it away or do work for those who don’t deserve it.

Secondly - if you are reactive, or vengeful or take everything personally you will pull the trigger when you shouldn’t. Or conversely, think love and light is the only way to live rendering yourself impotent.

It’s in ending relationships that are going nowhere. Changing jobs if you feel trapped. Following your instincts and deciding, you know what….I am the most important person in my life.

The Reward

It’s like a video-game.

A friend asks for a tarot reading when you don’t feel well. He has walked out again, what is going to happen? Will he come back? You don’t want to but she needs it.

You put yourself first. You know all she wants is comfort, not the truth. You say no.

Ding ding ding you have now unlocked prophetic dreams because you can be trusted to not just give it away.

We are supposed the be the KEEPERS OF KNOWLEDGE not the constant givers.

You work up the courage to leave your partner - move out, take the dogs - and have no idea what is going to happen after.

Ding ding ding you have shown tremendous courage and serious heart - here is being able to speak to your ancestors on the daily.

So if you are ever wondering why you might be a little stalled on your path, take a little look around at your life and see how you feel. Is there something that you have always wanted to do but put off? Have you been getting messages leading you in one direction but you have been ignoring them as it seems too difficult? Are you in love with your life?

And I would just like to state, you do not have to keep walking your path. You can stop at whatever destination you choose for yourself, it’s all your choice.

The rise of individualism and stepping away from any kind of community has left many people wondering what their purpose is. What is the point in their life?

Are we supposed to just wake up, do laundry, decide yet again what to have for dinner and then go to bed? Is that it?

A fulfilling purpose is always in service (helping) others.

I would like to point out here that there is a big difference between service and servitude; service is freely given, servitude is forced or coerced.

When you are in service every single fibre of your being feels alive and you know you are exactly where you are supposed to be.

For me, that looks like dealing with negative entities and navigating old generational bindings. Difficult, dangerous but my spirits have trained me well and, honestly, it fills me with love.

The worlds are complicated.

Looking at the Clues

There will be a lineage in your blood.

There is no need to scour the internet to find a Goddess, Lwa or Spirit that fits exactly what you want, and then petition them.

You simply have to unlock the spirits in your ancestry. There will already be years of offerings given by your ancestors that count. That created a bond, that meant they were gifted with skills that could be nurtured and used in service to their community, tribe or clan.

Back in the day, without these skills, the people wouldn’t last long.

There will be clues, throughout your life as to who these spirits are and when you are ready, go and meet them in meditation. Get the feel of them, their personality, the words they have to say.

Then you research and begin walking your path.

A spirit who resides in the underworld will also be an excellent healer to a particular set or people, or with a particular illness. There are those who govern those who died by suicide - maybe your purpose for a period of time is helping those people (which can be done in multiple ways).

Maybe you have Tawaret (Egyptian Hippo Goddess) which would seem hilarious at first glance, but she is a fierce warrior who protects those more vulnerable than herself, and I can think of no greater honour than being trusted with that particular purpose.

From there you walk your path with her and she will teach you how you will do this.

Everyone is different

There will be some of you, who’s path evolves over decades after passing test after test, which in turn means your purpose will evolve.

There is no point having a Mustang and only driving 30mph. The spirits are always resourceful, and you my darling are a resource, so they will put you to good use.

There are others with full lives who already do so much. They will walk their path and stand as an exemplary role model for the light.

These people are my heroes. Stable, loving, resilient and non judgemental in a world where everything is designed to bring you down.

These are the mothers to us all, and many of them wouldn’t even think they were spiritual.

They just pray now and again.

In this substack’ I will writing about the world that I live in, so some of you that have a foot in this world too or have come for a flying visit, can see that what you experienced was true.

There are factors in all of our lives that decide whether we experience something - Snow, an air-plane, diabetes, children, war, bipolar or love. The same can be said of spiritual and/or supernatural experiences.

My daily life is full of them - both my own and working with those who are aiming for more (spiritual path) or solving problems for those who are dealing with negative consequences (haunting/curse/attachment). So I will be talking in a very grounded, matter of fact way because it is just another Tuesday for me.

A large proportion of my private work revolves around walking into nightmare-ish scenarios and fixing them. It’s normal.

Hauntings are normal.
Attachments are VERY normal.
Possession rarer but in rural America goes up in probability.
Creature do live in the woods.
The dead will visit.

We would be idiots to think this only happens on HBO and then hit the person with anti-anxiety medicine.

In fact, that’s the strange part of all this. Our tight grip on denying what’s right in front of our faces when a man with a slither of authority tells us it’s not real.

Spirits are everywhere, supernaturals have their territories so this is nothing new. Nothing worthy of being sensational or special. As humans we have worked with them for millenia, and it is only in the last 150 years we have stopped under the leadership of men with no skill in this area.

They fear it because they cannot control it., and what you fear you quash.

So please do not expect sexy articles filled with gnashing teeth and saliva dripping down the door handle.
